I’ve recently received a mint, never-been-played, vinyl copy of Miles Davis – Kind of Blue. It is absolutely fantastic! I’ve heard subtleties in the music that I had never noticed before. The background fluttering in ‘All Blues’ was one of those moments. It is a great addition to my vinyl collection and an absolute pleasure to listen to.

It sounds like we need to sit down and do an A-B comparison between the Columbia sanctioned re-mastered for CD version and your LP. Is it a re-issue or does is it an original release?

That’s an excellent record! One of my favourites as well. I don’t know if you are aware of this, but this album is essentially improvisation. Miles Davis wrote the basics and then he and the other musicians ‘jammed’ it out with this as the final product.

While I’m not a fan of the technology of vinyl, this is definitely something that has changed (for the worse IMO) since those days. The comoditization of digital releases through the constant push of singles (which existed in the vinyl days, but wasn’t anywhere as easy as it is now) has all but destroyed the concept of ‘album’. I totally agree with what you said regarding artwork. Having a much larger space to work with, when it comes to vinyl, means that the artwork is often times way more striking.
