If you’re looking for a birthday present for me (you’ve got 6 months to save up), I would *love* a pair of these:

Hey John, I stumbled onto this article and it reminded me of the concerns you raised regarding gentrification in Montreal and it the effect it is having on the music scene. Clearly, this is an issue that is causing lots of problems for members of the industry, such as yourself. Among those who will loose are the fans who want to see…En afficher davantage

I have a question regarding high fidelity wireless audio. Is it possible to maintain a high quality audio feed over a wireless network, say from a stereo to speakers? Intuitively, I feel that the audio signal will be compressed and ultimately will lose some of its depth. Can anyone fill me in? I would love to eliminate the wiring in my home but…En afficher davantage

24bit 96kHz audio is 4.6Mbps without any compression for stereo (2 channel), and these days the standard 802.11n wifi routers (like Apple’s AirportExpress) start at 7Mbps. So, it’s definitely possible to send uncompressed audio to speakers even with consumer networking gear. I suspect that some sort of lossless or even high quality lossy…En afficher davantage

Hi Alex, I installed a wireless system for a client not too long ago. She did not want the “Future Shop” solution, so I went digging. I had just sold and installed a pair of KEF R300s so I asked my sales rep if he knew of anything out there. Apparently, KEF has a wireless kit and it sounds great. It’s designed for rear speakers within a home…En afficher davantage

Thanks to you both! Very good information and quick to reply. I now know where to come for all my audio questions!

Alex, wireless is cool and discreet-when it works! I run a wireless network at home using Apple’s AirportExpress. More often than not it works fine. But…every once-in-a-while it cuts out. These cu-outs are momentary and VERY annoying! If you can run wires, do it. They will not-and will never- fail unless you have a cat or squirrels.
-
Hey James, thank you for your feedback. I would find cut outs like that quite annoying as well. But I also hate having wires sticking out in plain sight. I can run wires through the walls of my home but that seems complicated considering the layout of my home. I might want to hire someone to do that. I’ll need to think this one over carefully.…En afficher davantage

Vinyl and Turntables il y a 11 ans et 10 mois
What I love about Vinyl:
Setting aside the whole analog vs digital debate, I would like to focus on the way we listen to music. Vinyl forces you to play the album as a whole (or at least one side for single record publications) as opposed to skipping to your favourite track. You can appreciate the recording as whole and start to recognize the…En afficher davantage-
While I’m not a fan of the technology of vinyl, this is definitely something that has changed (for the worse IMO) since those days. The comoditization of digital releases through the constant push of singles (which existed in the vinyl days, but wasn’t anywhere as easy as it is now) has all but destroyed the concept of ‘album’. I definitely think…En afficher davantage

I totally agree with what you said regarding artwork. Having a much larger space to work with, when it comes to vinyl, means that the artwork is often times way more striking. I also believe that it gives the artist more freedom to express the intentions of their album. For example, I just purchased Arcade Fire’s Reflektor and really enjoyed the…En afficher davantage

Buy High Sell Low:
The music industry has changed a lot since the late 90s where we first started to see an increase in mp3 sales, illegal downloads & the famous “burn & return” policy at HMV. At the time I owned a small independent record shop & record label in the plateau & we saw this first hand, as it happened. Seeing CD sales dip by 75% at…En afficher davantage - En afficher davantage
