This brilliantly recorded album “We Like It Here” by Snarky Puppy became a viral sensation, pushing them up the charts and bringing loads of young people into the world of jazz. Lead by bassist Michael League, Snarky Puppy was founded in Texas in 2004, and although they call themselves “pop music without lyrics”, they definitely have a huge jazz influence with world class jazz musicians as members.

A wonderful crossover, with classical cellist legend Yo-Yo Ma with fellow American trumpetist Chris Bott, playing the Hammerstein & Rodgers jazz standard ‘My Favourite Things’.

A bit reminiscent of early Brecker Brothers, this is the title track from the Canadian (Toronto based) Jazz ensemble Gray Matter’s debut album “Footsteps”. Keep your eye out for this ensemble!

A little cheesy disco? Perhaps. Herbie is one of my favourite musicians of all time, and a pure jazz legend. Here’s a throwback to 1978, performing ‘I thought It Was You’.
