Randy Cole, the producer of this video, is a great asset to Montreal Jazz. Not only does he produce fantastic content, but he clearly has a real love for the subject, which comes out clear as day in the recordings. This is a beautiful bit of Montreal jazz giants Kevin Dean, Al McLean and Mike Rud.

Snarky Puppy – Lingus (We Like It Here)

June 3, 2018 in audiophile, Jazz, Jazz-ROTD, Recording of the Day

“Lingus” from Snarky Puppy’s 2014 album ‘We Like It Here’. A true gem for anyone who loves modern jazz, but this song in particular highlights the virtuosic talents of keyboardist Cory Henry. Just the expressions on fellow keyboardist Shaun Martin say it all. Mind blowing! Beautifully recorded audio and video.

Jacob Collier & Metropole Orkest – Human Nature

May 31, 2018 in audiophile, Jazz, Jazz-ROTD, Recording of the Day

Metropole Orchestra is a multiple Grammy winning jazz and pop orchestra based in the Netherlands. This performance was a part of the BBC Proms 49, broadcast live from the Royal Albert Hall in London on August 22nd, 2016 featuring Jacob Collier performing Michael Jackson’s ‘Human Nature’. Not quite pop, definitely not classical, but I believe it merits inclusion in todays Jazz recording of the day.

Snarky Puppy – Shofukan (We Like It Here)

May 28, 2018 in Jazz, Jazz-ROTD, Recording of the Day

This brilliantly recorded album “We Like It Here” by Snarky Puppy became a viral sensation, pushing them up the charts and bringing loads of young people into the world of jazz. Lead by bassist Michael League, Snarky Puppy was founded in Texas in 2004, and although they call themselves “pop music without lyrics”, they definitely have a huge jazz influence with world class jazz musicians as members.
