  • Gray Matter – Footsteps

A bit reminiscent of early Brecker Brothers, this is the title track from the Canadian (Toronto based) Jazz ensemble Gray Matter’s debut album “Footsteps”. Keep your eye out for this ensemble!

  • Herbie Hancock – I Thought It Was You

A little cheesy disco? Perhaps. Herbie is one of my favourite musicians of all time, and a pure jazz legend. Here’s a throwback to 1978, performing ‘I thought It Was You’.

  • Marianne Trudel Trio & Ingrid Jensen – Soon

A Canadian West Coast meets East Coast – Vancouver’s Ingrid Jensen (who studied at Berkelee in Boston, MA) with Montreal’s own Marianne Trudel. Recorded live October 20, 2012 at Largo Resto-Club, in Québec City by Montreal Photographer and videographer Randy Cole.

  • Norah Jones – And Then There Was You

Daughter of the Indian musician Ravi Shankar, multi Grammy winner, Norah Jones is a giant in her own right. This performance was recorded live at the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London. This intimate performance, typical of Jones’s style sees her on the piano, accompanied by drummer Brian Blade and bassist Chris Thomas.

  • Kandace Springs – People Make The World Go ‘Round

The very groovy newcomer Kandace Springs is a mix of influences that bring memories of Billie Holiday to Lauryn Hill to Sade. Discovered by Prince in 2014, she flew to record a debut EP released on the legendary jazz label Blue Note. Perfect music to wind down to the end of a Monday evening.

  • Gray Matter – Eulogy

A wonderful tribute to the late Canadian Member of Parliament, Jack Layton, ‘Eulogy’ was composed around the words of Rev. Dr. Brent Hawkes. With Dr, Hawkes’ blessing, the track features spoken word samples from Layton’s state funeral.

Something very groovy to get you ready for Saturday night! Former music students from University of Michigan, Vulfpeck has a very devoted following on the internet, and it’s easy to see why.

Virtuoso trumpet player, and one of the greatest big band leaders of the late 20th century, Doc Severinsen’s career has incredible longevity. Still active today, this 3 year old recording was done back when Doc was a mere 87 years old!
