Kuhlau was known in his time for his works for flute.The Allegro from his Grand Sonata for fortepiano and flute obbligato is played here by flautist Mika Putterman and the fortepiano virtuoso Erin Helyard.
Schubert: An Silvia, D. 891 is an excerpt from Schubert: Nacht und Träume, interpreted here by German baritone Matthias Goerne and pianist Alexander Schmalcz.
This work with an enigmatic title (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Barricades_Myst%C3%A9rieuses), typical of the “style brisé”, has fascinated listeners and performers ever since its composition. It is played here by Quebec harpsichordist Luc Beauséjour.
This work is one of the great twentieth century trios.
