Louis-Claude Daquin lived from 1694 to 1772. According to Wikipedia, he “was a French composer of Jewish ancestry, writing in the Baroque and Galant styles. He was a virtuoso organist and harpsichordist.”

There are countless interpretations, but here is Montreal-born conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra performing the classic ballet work. I was driving to a meeting the other day and heard this piece on CBC’s “Shift” with Tom Allen. I had to stop and listen to this amazing performance. This piece was in the back of my mind throughout my entire meeting. By the time arrived home, I immediately googled Ann Southam and found this video. Enjoy.

Montreal will soon have a taste of the Catalan cuisine of maestro of avant-garde tapas Carles Abellan. The international outpost of his restaurant Tapas 24 is expected to make its highly anticipated debut this summer. Under the influence of Iberian culture and the 35th edition of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, I recently stumbled upon a recording of legendary jazz artist Miles Davis interpreting Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez.
