  • Carlo Gesualdo – Sesto libro di madrigali

Carlo Gesualdo – Sesto libro di madrigali: XVII. Moro, lasso, al mio duolo. An incredible piece of music written in the 15th century, the chromaticism is something that is very unusual for this era.

  • Mike Rud feat. Sienna Dahlen – Baby

A fantastic video of 2014 Juno Award (“Vocal Jazz Album of the Year”) winning songwriter and guitarist Mike Rud. Recorded at CBC Studio 12 in Montreal, this track features a number of Montreal’s top musicians, as well as (now Toronto based) singer Sienna Dahlen.

Mike’s CD ‘Notes On Montreal’ was inspired by Montreal authors (full story from Mike here) such as Mordecai Richler, Gabrielle Roy, Michel Tremblay, Leonard Cohen and Heather O’Niell to name a few. Mike’s full list of reading material is on his indigogo project page which helped produce this fabulous CD.

  • Esbjörn Svensson Trio: ´Round Midnight

Thelonious Monk’s classic tune: ‘Round Midnight recorded in 2000 by the Esbjörn Svensson trio. The rendition is smooth and intimate – a fantastic performance by the late Svensson.

    The Benefit Concert Series

    ombú productions presents

The theme of this concert series is local, local, local…local musicians, local food and drink, all in support of worthy local causes.

Coming up February 4th is the second concert in this series featuring Seán Dagher and The Paddingtons. Doors open at 7:00 PM with music starting at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $50.00 per person and will qualify as a tax creditable donation. Wine and cheese, plus other delectables will be served.

The Paddingtons have been performing Celtic and Maritime folk music since 1995 for local audiences in pubs and restaurants, concert halls and festival stages. Their repertoire is a combination of  “… festive songs played festively, love songs played romantically, and drinking songs played drunkenly…” – a real treat not to be missed!

Thanks to our sponsors, all proceeds from the evening’s event will go to support Project Genesis, a local community outreach organization founded in 1977. Located in a storefront on Victoria Avenue in Côte-des-Neiges, the organization’s goal is to improve the situation of people living in poverty by helping local residents better understand and defend their rights, and by providing a space where people can work together on issues of local importance.

Come join us Wednesday, February 4th! Tickets are $50 per person.

  • Google Play Music now available in Canada

On May 5th, Google announced that it’s streaming music service, Google Play Music, was now available in Canada. I’ve been using it for the free trial period, and I have to say I’ve been amazed at the amount of music I get to choose from for the same price as my Netflix subscription. I’ve now had a chance to explore albums that I would likely never have tried. While this is still lossy compressed audio, it is still as good as, if not better than expected from a streaming audio service. I’ll probably blog about some of the discoveries (and rediscoveries) I find.
